Canteen and free school meals

School Restaurant by Cucina

The Westgate School works closely with Cucina to ensure that all students have access to a healthy, balanced and nutritious diet at an affordable price.

Students have access to the restaurant before school for breakfast, breaktime, lunchtime and after school. Typical offerings are:

  • Free porridge for breakfast
  • A ‘meal of the day’
  • ‘Grab and Go’ items such as paninis, pizzas and calzone
  • Fresh pasta, wraps, sandwiches, baguettes and snacks
  • Homemade soup of the day

The restaurant menu operates on a three week cycle and is available below.

We have a simple philosophy:

To serve fantastic fresh food, quickly with a smile, to satisfied customers who return every day.

Cashless Catering

The school operates a cashless catering system so no cash will be accepted at the till.  Students will have their own account set up which can be topped through either ParentPay or via the machine located outside reception. ParentPay is the preferred option as it will negate the need for students to queue or bring cash to school.  This is much safer for young people and also means if your child is entitled to free school emails this is much more discrete as all students use the same cashless system.  Please see the ParentPay section for further details.

Free School Meals

School meals will give your child a real appetite for learning and help them to achieve their full potential. Did you know that your child could qualify for free school meals? If your child is eligible, it means they can enjoy a choice of delicious, healthy meals saving you the cost of making packed lunches. Many children at our school are already eating free school meals, and your child may be able to have them too.

Your child may be entitled to receive free school meals if you are entitled to receive one of the following:

  • Universal Credit with an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income Related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Guarantee Element of State Pension Credit
  • Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for the four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
  • Child Tax Credit (with no working tax credit) – with an annual income of less than £16,190
