🌍European Languages Day Event!🎉

What an incredible day of celebration at Westgate! Our students were on fire as they embraced the spirit of unity and learning at the European Day of Languages event. We joined forces to raise an impressive £231.55 for The Alzheimer's United against Dementia Charity through a delightful bake sale organised by our amazing students. 🌍📚🍰

Special thanks to Mrs. Siddiqui, Head of MFL, for leading inspiring assemblies connecting language learning to dementia prevention. Learning a second language might delay dementia by up to five years – a powerful message! 🧠🗣

Congrats to Saffia K, our lucky Year 11 French GCSE student, who won the raffle prize – a stunning Indian flag-themed cake, donated by the talented Jasleen V from Year 7.

But that's not all! Our celebration extended to culture, diversity, kindness, and tolerance in our community. Year 7 and 8 students tested their knowledge in a fun 'Careers and Languages' workshop with Mrs. Green, our Careers Leader. They also explored the world of Djembe drums used for communication by Malian tribes in an exciting musical workshop led by Ms. Francis, Head of Music.

Mrs. Ahmed, our Intervention Co-ordinator, wowed us with a vibrant cultural fashion show, where students represented Pakistan, Poland, Russia, Tibet, Portugal, India, Sri Lanka, and Spain, showcasing their traditional attire and language.

Across the school, different departments adapted their lessons to show the connection between their subjects and modern foreign languages. From solving maths problems in various languages to exploring the Gothic alphabet in English class, our students experienced it all. Even the canteen got in on the action!

A big shout-out to our Language Ambassadors who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this day a roaring success. It was a day of unity, learning, and embracing the rich tapestry of cultures. We can't wait for the next adventure!
