👧Empowering girls through football⚽️!

12 of our Year 7 and 8 girls who regularly attend Football club or who have shown great interest in the sport were fortunate to attend the ‘LET GIRLS PLAY ‘event 2024. This purposefully coincided with International WOMEN’S day!

Travelling by mini-bus, they arrived to be greeted by the SLOUGH SCHOOLS partnership who are fostering the new link with Brentford FC to allow ALL GIRLS in Slough to have a pathway to further their sport of Football and take up further opportunities.

The morning activities involved 3 varied workshops led by female Brentford players, female referee’s and female Bucks, Berks and Oxon associates, real role models for our girls. This included ball skills, refereeing flag and red/yellow card decisions, plus motivational coaching aspects.

The highlight of the morning session was meeting Anita Asante - former England player with 71 caps for the team and also representing Great Britain in the 2012 Olympics. Anita spoke to the 200 plus group of girls, followed by a Q+A session – where Monica was lucky enough to be chosen to ask a question.

A quick refuelling and then the afternoon focussed on a mini-tournament – needless to say the girls were victorious as they did not lose a game. Well done girls!

They left with smiles on their faces, a new football each and a certificate with other goodies.
