Wheelchair Basketball in Brighton

After finishing 2nd in the Slough Wheelchair Basketball competition, Westgate had to up their game and take on the best teams in South East England in Brighton last Friday.  After an early start and a long drive everyone was in high spirits and ready to get the games going.

Competition was fierce and our team knew it was going to be no easy task and that they had to play their best if we were going to win the games. After losing the first two games and adapting to the slight rule changes,  we managed to draw on our next two fixtures with some outstanding defending on display with both games ending with low scores on the board.

Our last game was by far the toughest as we lined up against a team that finished 3rd in the National Wheelchair basketball competition in 2016. Our team knew they needed to once again prove that they meant business and they did. We won...the first half. However, we sadly lost the second half which meant that we lost the overall fixture but considering the talent in the opposing team we put up a great fight!

The competition ended with Westgate finishing 5th out of 6 teams, a result that we are proud of. Well done to the boys who represented the school!
