First place in the Salters’ Chemistry festival – University of Oxford
On Thursday 17th March we took 2 Year 7 boys (Pema Tsering and Callum Nicoll) and 2 Year 8 girls (Olivia Wardrobe and Ria Dhillon) to the Salters’ Chemistry Festival at Oxford University. They competed against 15 other schools doing a mixture of hands on practical chemistry challenges and problem solving. The teams of 4 were assessed on their practical abilities and team working skills and we are delighted to say that we came first.
Following the prize giving ceremony we were shown a range of amazing chemistry demonstrations, including blowing up balloons full of oxygen (very loud) and ‘cooking’ eggs using liquid nitrogen. The pupils were able to taste some ice-cream at the end of the day that had been made using liquid nitrogen as well.
