The Westgate School Curriculum Model
The aims of the model are as follows:
To offer a broad and balanced curriculum;
To focus upon the acquisition of skills required to be ‘#equipped for life’;
To gain a balance between what best serves student and school needs.
Details of the model can be found in the booklet at the bottom of this page. In Key Stage 3, students follow the full range of National Curriculum subjects but choose either Art, Drama or Music to study in Year 9. In Key Stage 4, there are both academic and vocational qualifications available to ensure that the needs of individuals are met whilst maintaining a balance. Students select their three option subjects during the Spring term of Year 9. In Year 10, students complete their GCSE RMS and in Year 11 they gain 2 lessons in study support and intervention designed to support their exam preparation. In Key Stage 5, most students study three subjects to A (Advanced) Level. There are also opportunities for students to study BTEC Level 3 courses and vocational Level 2 courses. Further details can be found in the sixth form section.
