No ordinary library!
Our Learning Resource Centre (LRC) supports teaching and learning across the whole school. The LRC provides a study area for students and teachers, a growing catalogue of print and electronic resources that support the curriculum, and provides books that facilitate literacy development, reading for pleasure, and independent learning .
The LRC is open from 8.45am to 4pm on Mondays, 8.15am to 4pm Tuesday through Thursday, and 8.15am to 3.45pm on Fridays and is staffed by an LRC Manager and LRC Assistant. Opening times include break and lunchtimes as well. We have dedicated break times for silent reading and Accelerated Reader quizzing to give students ample opportunity to successfully meet their Accelerated Reader targets and enjoy opportunities for reading for pleasure.
Outside of school, our database of books, websites and eBooks are available through our remote Eclipse database and MLS app.
To encourage reading for pleasure, we support the implementation of Accelerated Reader where students can read a book at their pre-determined level, complete a quiz for their book and carry on moving through levels, thus accelerating their literacy development. Year 7 and 8 students attend weekly Accelerated Reader lessons in the LRC via English lessons, attend Tutor time in the LRC on a rotating basis, and complete quiet reading in the tutor groups weekly. The LRC Manager keeps track of students' progress, which Tutors and English teachers also record, and students are awarded certificates and prizes as they achieve new levels in their reading.
