Library

No Ordinary Library!

Our library supports teaching and learning across the whole school and provides a welcoming space for students and staff alike. We offer a comfortable study area, a growing catalogue of print and electronic resources that support the curriculum, and provide books that facilitate literacy development, reading for pleasure, and independent learning.

Here you will find our core of dedicated and inclusive student librarians, Duke of Edinburgh volunteers, and our weekly chess club. We engage all Year 7 and Year 8 students with reading through our Accelerated Reader program.

Opening Times

The library is currently open 8am-3.30pm on Monday - Tuesday and 8am-4.15pm Wednesday - Friday and is staffed by our Library Manager (Ms Mulligan) and our Library Assistant (Mrs Mansbridge). We welcome staff and students before school, during break and lunch times, and after school. Sixth formers are also welcome to study in the library during their free periods through the day.

AccessIt

Our library management system, AccessIt, allows all of our students to access their personal library accounts, reserve books, leave book reviews, create alerts for new books, access The Day, and so much more. Check it out here: AccessIt

Accelerated Reader

To encourage reading for pleasure, we support the implementation of Accelerated Reader where students can read a book at their pre-determined level, complete a quiz for their book, and carry on moving through levels, thus accelerating their literacy development.

The progress of students through the school year and gives the students the opportunity to win prizes and accolades for their accomplishments.

Parents can track their child’s reading and quizzing progress and students can complete book quizzes from home during school holidays by going to Westgate’s renaissance homepage:

Happy reading!
