Get Into Teaching

Do you want to make a difference to the lives of young people? Do you wish to impart knowledge to pupils from all walks of life and ultimately help shape the next generation?

At The Westgate School, teaching and learning is at the heart of everything that we do.

We offer a bespoke and comprehensive training for ECTs, student teachers as well as unqualified teachers and to equip them with the knowledge and skillset to thrive in the classroom. Here is just a sample of a list of sessions that we offer that provide innumerable benefits to the growth and development of a teacher at the start of their career:

  1. Behaviour management
  2. Understanding SEND at the Westgate School
  3. Being mindful of mental health and well-being
  4. Maximising teaching and learning opportunities in the classroom
  5. Understanding how to use SIMS and 4Matrix to understand analyse class data

Many of our ECTs and unqualified teachers develop and grow quickly and go on to secure leadership roles. At The Westgate School, we work with several Universities and local SCITTs and training providers which enables us to have a strong and close working partnerships. Here is a list of our partnerships:

  • Reading University
  • ASTRA School Teaching Hub
  • LWA (London West Alliance) SCITT

  • University of Hertfordshire
  • University College of London

Want to learn more about teaching? Here are some of our current ECTs sharing their experience so far:

“It has been a great experience working at Westgate school so far. During my time here I felt welcomed by the team both within my department and by other colleagues. I was supported by my curriculum lead wherever needed which allowed me to develop as a teacher. I am still very much enjoying my time at Westgate and feel that I can always talk to someone when I feel overwhelmed with work.”

“I am happy here at Westgate. The staff are great and my department are fantastic to work with.”

“I am finding the Westgate School has given me a positive outlook on how to approach students with kindness and awareness of their specific needs. As an ECT 2 who has come from another school halfway through I did find it very challenging getting know all students and new SOWs to learn from scratch. However, the support from my Curriculum with Emma, Nitu and Karen has really been such a boost for me in terms of always being free to help and give support. I feel lucky to be a part of such a good team and very grateful for everything they have done to shape me as an Art Teacher. Also having those sessions for ECTs was vital and getting to know them has supported me in building positive relationships. I do feel I am still finding my feet still and some days are better than others but I am trying my best to focus on what I achieved so far.”
