Seven Year 8 girls travelled to Bisham Abbey to represent The Westgate School at the Berkshire Indoor Athletics Tournament.
The Year 8 Girls indoors athletics team had qualified for the Berkshire School Games through the All Slough Schools competition at Christmas where, after a tough morning of competing, the team from Westgate finished 2nd overall earning themselves the chance to compete against the best schools from Berkshire.
The day got off to a relaxed start with all the girls getting a chance to experience some other sports and mingle with the other competitors from the different schools. After all opting to get their face painted with the Westgate colours it was time to head into the main sports hall and do their best in the events.
The standard was very high and our girls worked extremely hard and gave their very best to ensure they represented the school as great ambassadors. From 16 schools, Westgate was placed in 11th position overall, missing out on 10th place by only 6 points which went to the other Slough School.
The seven girls have made everyone at The Westgate School so proud, not only for a fantastic result but also for their exceptional behaviour and attitude throughout. Well done Girls!
“It was tough but I really enjoyed myself.” Lucy-Lou, Year 8.
“I really wish we could continue to take part in indoor athletics, I really enjoy it.” Bethany, Year 8.
“The girls have worked very hard to ensure they could put on a good show and represent our school in the best possible way. Their behaviour and attitude on the day was exceptional, even amongst the chaos of 16 other schools in one sports hall all running around, our girls sat down very calmly and waited for their turn to warm up which was lovely to see. I know that we as a PE department are so proud of the girls’ efforts and achievements throughout the indoor athletics competitions. They gave it their all and achieved some great things.” Mr Watson, Sports Associate.
