Charting the Path: Year 9 Preps for their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Expeditions!
Year 9 spent the day preparing for their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze expeditions. Four experienced instructors paid a visit to the school and taught our students everything they need to know about adventuring the outdoors. Students learned skills including:
- Map reading, route planning and navigation.
- How to correctly pack a rucksack for expedition and what equipment to bring.
- First aid and how to respond to an emergency.
- Cooking and nutrition for camping/hiking.
Year 9 will be heading out on their practice expedition at the start of June, with their assessment expedition the following week. They will need to use all the skills they’ve learned on the training day to make sure they safely complete the award. The DofE expedition is a great opportunity for the students to experience a new way of living and exposes them to the beauty of our local natural environments.
