Lighting the Way for Art Students in London
Our Year 13 Art students travelled to London via public transport for an inspiring gallery visit to support their Art exam preparation. Their first stop was the Tate Modern, where we explored Anthony McCall’s thought-provoking exhibition Solid Light. The students were particularly engaged by the interactive nature of the installation, which encouraged them to move through and engage physically with the beams of projected light, blurring the line between viewer and artwork.
Following the Tate visit, they took a scenic walk along the South Bank and across to Trafalgar Square, where they visited the National Portrait Gallery. Here, students explored a diverse collection of portraits—both contemporary and historic—which provided a rich source of inspiration for their personal projects. The visit sparked valuable discussion, new ideas, and creative thinking. Overall, it was a rewarding day that left students motivated and excited to develop their exam work further.
