'Move It' Dance Convention 2026

Our Year 9 and 10 dancers headed up to the ExCeL centre to attend Move it- The World's largest Dance Convention. The trip provided students with an exciting opportunity to experience the professional dance industry first-hand, participate in workshops, watch live performances from world-class dancers and be in the presence of the industry's most iconic names such as Brian Friedman and Abby Lee Miller.

Throughout the day, students took part in a range of activities allowing each student to immerse themselves within post-16 schools, performances and styles. Some of our year 9's took LJay Halliday's contemporary fusion class, combining their skills in contemporary with influences from commercial and locking. The high level of teaching inspired students to push beyond their comfort zones and engage fully in a style outside of their comfort zone. Our year 10's secured tickets a meet and greet with Cacherel Mercer who has made multiple TV appearances and is a young minds ambassador.

The convention also featured stalls and exhibitions from dance schools, colleges, and industry organisations. This allowed students to explore potential pathways in dance, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of future opportunities within the performing arts.

In addition to all of this, students had the opportunity to watch live performances on the main stage. These showcased exceptional talent and creativity, giving students a valuable insight into the professional standards expected within the dance industry. Students particularly enjoyed performances from Studio 79, Wilkes and Addict, as well as The Creative Academy- a Vocational school founded in Slough itself. Many students found these performances particularly motivating and expressed a desire to continue developing their own dance skills. Our year 10s took an incredibly keen interest in the freestyle arena, watching talented dancers of all ages improvise in the hope of winning awards.

Overall, the trip was a highly rewarding and eye-opening experience. It not only enhanced students’ practical dance skills but also broadened their awareness of the dance world beyond the classroom. The experience has undoubtedly inspired many students and will have a lasting impact on their confidence, creativity, and passion for dance.
