⚽️Mud and Glory: Year 9s VS Charters in County Cup Opener with Incredible Last-Kick Victory!🏅

Our incredible Year 9s’ played Charters in the 1st Round of the County Cup in near freezing conditions on a very muddy pitch.

After dominating the match, Charters scored against the run of play midway through the first half. Although Westgate continued to hold possession of the ball and control the pace of the game, they were not effective in front of goal and rarely troubled the keeper. They were given a huge reprieve when the Charter’s centre forward hit the post moments after their goal.

The second half was like the first, with Westgate pressing forward in numbers, which eventually opened the game, allowing Charters the opportunity to hit them on the break. Westgate received two corners in quick succession and on the second corner, every player including the goalkeeper were in the Charters’ half. The ball looped over the Charters team and was partially cleared to the edge of the box before Lukas D shot with his right foot into the top corner, lobbing the keeper from 25 yards out.

It proved to be the last kick of the game, which proceeded to penalties. Westgate scored all but one penalty and advanced through to the next round. Well done team!
