Year 6 Transition Day!

Embracing New Beginnings: Meeting Miss Kapur and the Joy of Tutor Groups!
We are delighted to share the incredible experiences our Year 6 students had during their recent transition period. Alongside the Transition Day and Evening, the students had the privilege of meeting their new Director of Learning, Miss Kapur, discovering their tutor groups, and engaging in various activities and group work. One of the highlights of the transition period was the introduction to Miss Kapur, our dedicated and inspiring Director of Learning. Through engaging conversations, she shared her vision for their Westgate journey and offered guidance, ensuring a smooth transition into Year 7.
Our students had the joy of discovering their new tutor groups. These groups are designed to provide a supportive and nurturing environment where students can build lasting friendships, receive guidance, and develop essential social and emotional skills. The tutor groups foster a sense of belonging, creating a strong foundation for each student's personal growth and academic progress.
To further strengthen the bonds within their tutor groups, the students participated in a range of team-building activities. These activities encouraged collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills, allowing the students to work together towards a common goal. From exciting challenges to creative projects, the team-building activities provided an opportunity for students to build trust, respect, and friendships within their tutor groups. Our Year 6 students had the opportunity to engage in icebreaker activities; allowing them to discover more about their classmates' interests, hobbies, and aspirations. Through sharing stories, dreams, and experiences, the students formed connections, fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment right from the start.
As part of their transition journey, the students embarked on a group work project focused on presenting their "Crazy Big Dream." This activity encouraged them to think creatively and set ambitious goals for themselves. Through brainstorming, planning, and collaborating with their peers, the students developed presentations that showcased their unique aspirations and dreams for the future. This exercise not only promoted teamwork but also instilled confidence in our Year 6 students as they realised the power of their ideas and the support of their classmates.
We are immensely proud of the enthusiasm and dedication displayed by our Year 6 students throughout their transition period. Their eagerness to embrace new challenges, build connections, and share their aspirations is a testament to their remarkable character and the nurturing environment at Westgate School.
We are delighted to highlight the success of our Parent Welcome Evening, which took place alongside the Transition Day. This evening provided a wonderful opportunity for parents and guardians to come together and learn more about the Westgate experience that awaits their children. During the event, our Year 6 students had the chance to share their personal Westgate journeys, expressing their excitement, challenges, and growth throughout their time at our school. Students captivated the audience with heartfelt readings of selected poems from the inspiring book "The Same Inside." This collection celebrates diversity, empathy, and the importance of embracing our shared humanity. These readings served as a reminder of our commitment to fostering an inclusive and compassionate community at Westgate. Furthermore, parents received key information about the school day structure, uniform guidelines, and our core values of kindness, reflection, and ambition. The evening fostered open communication, unity, and a shared understanding of our collective role in supporting the success and well-being of our students.
We extend our gratitude to our transition champions and 6th form students for their warm welcome and inspiring guidance, as well as to the dedicated tutors and staff members who facilitated ensuring a smooth Transition Day and supported the students every step of the way. As we embark on this exciting new chapter together, we are confident that our Year 6 students will thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, guided by their tutors, teachers, and the entire Westgate School community and look forward to their induction day on Tuesday 5th September 2023.
