Westgate and Team Abbvie Programme Celebrations – Year 2

The dedicated team at Abbvie has supported some Year 10 students over the past two years with a unique and inspiring personal development programme.
‘Team Abbvie’ has worked creatively to engage with students on their half termly visits to Abbvie HQ in Maidenhead, where they have worked with a wide range of employees, and developed superb rapport with the senior directors, programme leaders, interns, and other employees. Each session is themed around the core subjects of Maths, English and Science and incudes GCSE curriculum tasks working with Abbvie staff and presenting to the room. Students have built up their confidence, presenting and communication skills hugely as a result, and report that they feel equipped for post-16 further education choices and beyond.
In addition, Abbvie supports students with resources for learning including personal laptops, textbooks, stationery, and specialist equipment according to their options subjects. The programme has afforded students with private tuition, Duke of Edinburgh Scheme, PGL revision weekend and attending the Brilliant Club at Oxford University, from which they will graduate this summer.
Westgate is proud to be considered ‘Team Abbvie’ and we look forward to Year 3 and all that Year 11 brings our students leading up to exams. The end of year celebration saw students enjoying lunch with the Directors and staff, sharing their feedback, and discussing how they have progressed, and what they are expecting for next year.
We were all given a gift of Team Abbvie hoodies to finish off another superb year of collaboration and engagement with a leading pharmaceutical company!
