Westgate students experienced French culture at Europe's most popular festive market
It was a very early start for 40 Westgate students and their teachers as they left school at 4am to catch the Dover to Calais ferry.
The day was spent exploring Lille's Christmas market, buying presents, sampling French cuisine and riding the enormous Ferris Wheel which offered amazing views of the town.
We had a great day and although it was tiring we arrived home well fed and in high spirits.
“I really enjoyed Lille because we experienced French culture at first hand. Visiting the Christmas market allowed me to practise my French language skills. It was also really fun trying some traditional French food! Overall I would recommend the Lille Christmas Market trip to anyone who is interested.” James, Year 10 student.
“I really enjoyed Lille because of the 'Christmassy' atmosphere and the various attractions. In Lille we learnt about French culture, including the food and were able use our French when we went shopping. The rare experience was educational and very interesting. I would recommend it to all students.” Ellie, Year 9 student.
“The annual trip to the French Christmas Market really allows our students to soak up French culture. It enables students to practise their language skills as well as explore a beautiful part of northern France. Great fun was had by both staff and students, and we look forward to returning next year with 40 more students” Miss Manley - Tour Leader.
