The Westgate Chorus’ achieved Gold at the Woodley Festival of Music and Arts!
The Music Department is delighted to announce that the Westgate Chorus has won the Gold Award for their outstanding performance in the Young People’s Choir (Year 13 and under) category at the Woodley Festival of Music and Arts competition. The choir performed two songs, “Drag Me Down” and “Perfect Strangers”. The adjudicator was impressed with the quality of the performance, commenting that the choir were “the full package: musical, entertaining and worked well together.” Despite the choir coming 2nd place overall in its category, he awarded Gold for their overall performance.
1st place winners were The Bulmershe Ensemble from The Bulmershe School in Reading. After the competition, both choirs rushed to talk to each other, eager to congratulate one another on their success.
“It was nice to meet students from another school choir who sing in a similar style to us,” Year 11 student Lauren Bown commented, “The Bulmershe Ensemble looked so professional and have inspired us to try new things in our performances. I’m really proud of what we achieved. We’ve only been together as a choir for 18 months and we nearly came 1st place! I look forward to competing against Bulmershe again in Swindon!”
The music department would like to thank everyone for their support with the event and congratulate all performers involved.
If you would like to hear the Westgate Chorus, our next performance is at The Platform in Swindon for the Regional Music for Youth competition for the Southeast. This will take place on the Sunday 2nd April and tickets will be available on the doors for a small fee.
