Westgate becomes a Careers Hub for Thames Valley Berkshire

Only two Slough Schools are now 'Hubs' for bringing excellent Careers guidance for young people.

Careers Hubs launched in Berkshire to improve opportunities for young people

20 schools across Berkshire became Careers Hubs during this academic year to improve careers education and increase employer engagement, allowing young people to make more informed choices about their future careers. The Hub will be managed by Thames Valley Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

Careers Hubs bring together schools and colleges with employers, universities, training providers and career professionals to improve outcomes for young people, through a relentless focus on best practice. Schools and colleges will have access to support and funding, including an expert ‘Hub Lead’ to help co-ordinate activity and build networks, a central fund to support employer engagement activities, and training for a ‘Careers Leader’ in each school and college.

The Slough schools involved in the Careers hub are The Westgate School and Slough & Eton School. Westgate is proud to be involved and work with a wider range of employers and Careers supporters from local organisations.

Allison Giles, Careers Hub Lead at Thames Valley Berkshire LEP added, “We are delighted to have Careers Hubs in Berkshire to support our schools to continue to make progress with their Careers Education. Career planning and career management skills are absolutely key to ensuring that our young people can fulfil their potential. Supporting schools to provide young people with up-to-date knowledge of work, training and educational options is of paramount importance for the future of our economy.”

Debbie Smith, Headteacher at Sandhurst School and Careers Hub Lead School said, “We are delighted to be a Lead School and are looking forward to working with other schools to best improve the career provision for all students across the area. Under the guidance of the Careers Hub we will create a strong community of schools that will work closely with the Enterprise Co-ordinators and Advisers to achieve all 8 Gatsby Benchmarks. We will aim to provide life-changing opportunities to students in our local and regional communities by engaging local employers and opening up the world of employment to all young people in Berkshire.”
