Professional theatre company ‘The Globe Players’ visit The Westgate School to perform to Year 11 students.
At The Westgate School we value the importance of providing students with extra-curricular activities so when the opportunity arose to invite the ‘Globe Players’ into school to perform for the Year 11s, we jumped at the chance.
On the last Friday before half-term, the Globe Players performed ‘An Inspector Calls and ‘Macbeth’. The performances were outstanding and provided the students with not only the opportunity to see a professional theatre production, but also gave them a clear insight into how their GCSE texts could be interpreted and adapted to be performed on stage. This gave them an invaluable opportunity to consolidate their knowledge and to remember key quotations - some students even enthusiastically mouthed the actor’s lines as they were performing!
They students also had high praise for the performers:
Joe stated that ‘they had great acting skills and gave an amazing performance. I’ll be well prepared for the exam because of them.’
Rebecca said ‘they were outstanding and it was great they told us about context throughout’.
Sharjeel continued their support as he said that ‘the actors played the characters perfectly – their acting made the whole experience extremely enjoyable. The context they gave throughout both plays made it much easier to understand.’
It’s clear that we all thoroughly enjoyed the performances and we very much look forward to inviting them back next year – Miss Williams, Teacher of English.
