Nervous students survive the scrutiny of Industry for the first time!
Westgate welcomed 20 visitors from a wide range of organisations this week for its Year 11 Interviews event. Students prepared their first ever CV’s prior to the day and met with the professionals to have their very first interview in order to prepare them for the imminent working world as they all reach the age of 16. There were lots of anxious faces whilst waiting for their appointment, and students looked highly professional in their chosen ‘interview’ attire. School was very lucky to be joined by staff from Adobe, Tesco, Morgan Sindall, Fujitsu, BT, Adecco, US Air Force, Morgan Stanley, French Estates and Honda. The feedback form all parties was hugely positive, and students were thrilled to have survived their ordeal and took away some expert tips and guidance to help them in their future careers.
Student Jess Webb said “I didn’t what to expect before meeting my interviewer, Melvin Pearce from BT, but he was very friendly and put my mind at ease straight away. I learned that I needed to change a few things on my CV and that I should prepare more questions for future interviews. Thank you for this excellent session”
“An opportunity like this is essential for us to enable students to enrich their final GCSE Year and to help them be prepared for their next steps, said Karen Green, Careers and Business Links Officer. “We are so grateful that some well recognised brands have taken the time and effort to engage with our students. Working with Learning to Work who organised all the interviewers is always a pleasure and once again we were treated to a superb event that has impacted on 160 young people to help them with their future”
